Dongfeng Special Auto (Shiyan) Bus Co., Ltd. recently signed a contract with Hubei Qianyuan Weili New Energy Technology Co., Ltd. located in Hanchuan Economic Development Zone. Both parties plan to launch more than 500 zinc-air battery electric vehicles next year.
The agreement stipulates that the two sides jointly develop, design and trial production of 12-meter pure electric buses, and the overall vehicle cost is more than 1 million yuan. Among them, Qianyuan Weili is mainly responsible for the production of zinc-air batteries, and the price of batteries is more than 400,000 yuan.
According to reports, zinc air battery is currently the most mature metal gas battery family, the closest to practical application of a metal air battery. Compared with the current mainstream lithium battery, the weight of the zinc air battery is half that of the lithium battery, and the driving range is twice that of the lithium battery. The initial installation price is only 40% of the lithium battery.
The person in charge of Qian Yuanwei introduced that the “Zinc Air Battery Project for Vehicles” is one of the national 863 major science and technology projects. Qian Yuanwei took 3 years and invested more than 5,000 yuan. In 2013, he built a demonstration production line. The project research and development made substantial progress, obtained a number of inventions and practical patents, and established a patent protection system. The products have been tested, all technical indicators have passed, and the vehicle performance test has passed. It is estimated that by 2017, the company will produce more than 3,000 zinc-air batteries per year, and will be used in the electric vehicle market in addition to Dongfeng Special Steam.
