Heavy truck growth slows down in January


In January, the overall truck market continued to grow at a relatively fast pace. The sales growth of the heavy truck market slowed slightly compared to last year, but remained at above 40%. The sales volume of the light truck market also increased by nearly 30% year-on-year; the sales volume of the Chinese and micro-card markets were comparable year-on-year. A slight decrease occurred.

According to statistics provided by the China Association of Automobile Manufacturers, in January, the truck market produced a total of 187,170 trucks, an increase of 12.99% year-on-year; sales of 1,660,35 vehicles, an increase of 22.48% year-on-year. Compared with December of last year, the truck output in January increased by 11.15%, while the sales volume fell by 0.42%. Judging from the various market segments of trucks, each truck's vehicle market achieved a year-on-year increase in sales, with a significant increase in sales volume in the light truck market. In addition to heavy vehicles, non-integrated vehicles continued to maintain rapid growth in production and sales, while other market segments experienced different degrees of decline.

Heavy truck growth tends to normal

The heavy-duty truck market continued to grow at a rapid rate in the last year, but the growth rate of nearly 60% last year has been difficult to reproduce. According to statistics, 35,557 heavy trucks were produced in January, an increase of 30.18% year-on-year; sales were 38,968 vehicles, an increase of 41.04% year-on-year. Compared with December of last year, the production and sales of heavy trucks achieved growth of 28.57% and 6.30%, respectively.

In the heavy-duty truck sales market, heavy-duty trucks with a total capacity of 14 tons and a capacity of 19 tons or less have become champions. In January, 1302 units were sold, representing an increase of 117% year-on-year. Heavy-duty trucks with a total growth volume of 32 tons and a consistent growth main force were included. The car market experienced a 36.37% decline. It is still 19 tons of heavy-duty trucks with a total mass of 26 tons or less, which sold 3,779 vehicles in January. Heavy-duty non-complete vehicles and semi-trailer tractors achieved year-on-year growth of 40.41% and 26.53%, respectively.

From the heavy truck industry sales rankings, Sinotruk sold 8977 cars, an increase of 38.71% year-on-year; FAW followed 8354 vehicles, followed by a 34.09% year-on-year increase; the third-placed Dongfeng achieved 83.06% year-on-year. Rapid growth, selling 7,141 vehicles in January. The fourth to sixth names are Shaanxi Auto (5018), Futian (3680) and JAC (1016). Shaanxi Automobile and Jianghuai respectively achieved a year-on-year growth of 27.12% and 67.66%, while SAIC Hongyan Iveco (938 units), which was ranked in the top six, fell 18.2% year-on-year in January and fell to eighth place.

China Card continues to slide

In January, the card market further shrank. According to statistics, in January, China Card produced a total of 16,830 vehicles and sold 12,345 vehicles, which was a decrease of 0.45% and 8.72% respectively year-on-year. Compared with December, output increased by 20.44%, while sales volume decreased by 33.21%.

From the point of view of the China Card Market, the entire vehicle of the China Card exhibited a clear trend of polarization, achieving 66.84% of the 12-ton total weight ≤ 14 tons range and the 6-ton total quality ≤ 8 tons range at the two ends. With a year-on-year increase of 21.96%, the sales volume was 649 vehicles and 4,126 vehicles respectively. In the middle segment, the total vehicle sales volume of the 8-cart <total mass ≤ 10 tons and 10 tons <total mass ≤ 12 tons was reduced by 19.44% and 27.34% respectively. In addition, there is a significant drop of 22.18% in the CNMC non-integrated vehicles.

In the China Card sales market, Dongfeng and FAW continued to rank the first two, but both experienced a certain degree of decline. According to statistics, in January, 3,413 Dongfeng cards were sold, a year-on-year decrease of 20.61%; 2858 vehicles were sold by FAW, a decrease of 26.02% year-on-year. The Southern Sichuan, Jianghuai, and Chengdu trump cards ranked third to fifth. The sales of the three companies were 1,191, 1,182, and 199, respectively.

Light truck sales increase sharply

In January, sales of light trucks continued to grow steadily, and micro-cards saw a slight decline. According to statistics, the light truck market produced 94,889 and 89,195 vehicles in January, a year-on-year increase of 12.24% and 29.62%; the total output of micro-cards was 29164 vehicles and 25,527 vehicles, and the output increased by 1.55% compared with the same period of last year. Sales volume decreased by 0.55% over the same period.

From the perspective of the light-duty card segment, the 1.8-ton light-cards with a total mass of ≤ 3.5 tons recorded the fastest year-on-year growth in January, an increase of 44.35%, and their sales volume was 50,795 units. The growth rate of light trucks in the range of 4.5 tons <total mass ≤ 6 tons has slowed down from last year, with an increase of 30.09% and sales of 11,176 vehicles.

From the perspective of industry sales rankings, Foton has established a leading edge, with sales of 24,046 vehicles in January, a year-on-year increase of 29.28%. Dongfeng ranked second with 15,478 light trucks sold, an increase of 11.82% year-on-year; JAC ranked third, with 8,532 light trucks sold, a year-on-year increase of 10.86%.

In the micro-card market, the top three are Chang'an, SAIC-GM-Wuling and Jinbei, respectively. Hafei has dropped to fourth place. The sales of the four companies in January were 9,106, 3,869, 3042 and 2,679 respectively.
