According to data released by the Italian National Bureau of Statistics, from January to April 2011, the Italian industrial production index increased by 2.5% over the same period of 2010, and continued to maintain the growth momentum.

From the perspective of major industries, the industries that have shown rapid growth are: machinery and equipment manufacturing (14%); metallurgy and metal products manufacturing (8.2%). However, the industrial production of textiles, garments, and leather goods in the traditional advantageous industries showed signs of decline, down 5.1% year-on-year.
