According to reports, President Barack Obama announced on September 11th, 2009 that the China Tire Special Safeguard measures will expire in September this year, because within the statutory deadline, neither the U.S. domestic industry nor the administration has taken any action to extend the measure. The measure will be terminated on schedule.

According to the report, under the U.S. law, the special protection measures for tires will expire after 3 years of implementation, unless the action is required to be postponed until half a year (before March 2012). However, neither the U.S. Steel Workers Union nor the U.S. President Barack Obama has asked the U.S. International Trade Commission to extend special safeguard measures by March this year. A spokesperson for the U.S. Trade Representative Office said last week that "no stakeholders have applied for an extension, and tire protection measures will be terminated on schedule in September."
