Zhang Ying, former chief product officer of Weichai WP13, unveiled the new WP13 with the retired chief engineer Li Changxin at the WP13 IPO launch conference on January 7, 2015. At that time, Li Changxin was 70 years old.

According to Zhang Ying, Li Changxin worked for the WP13 project until he was 65. At the same time, they were the longest and youngest members of the core team members of the Weichai “blue-green” project more than a decade ago. The WP13, as a large-scale engine of Weichai’s autonomous high-power engine, was unveiled by two people. WP13's expectations.

Li Changxin is an early domestic internal-combustion engine engineer. He not only knows the history of the heavy-duty truck industry in China, but also understands the generation of engineers' desire for autonomous high-power engines. In the 1980s, with the successful introduction of Steyr technology, China had a real heavy truck. Weichai also entered the heavy-duty power field and became an expert company in this field. However, Weichai is not satisfied with this, and the dream of independently developing the world's most advanced high-speed and high-power engines has never stopped.

Hard work pays off. In 2005, China's first high-speed, high-powered engine with complete independent intellectual property rights, Weichai Blue Engine was launched. The Lanqing project not only allowed older engineers such as Li Changxin to access the world’s most advanced engine technology, but also enabled the younger generation such as Zhang Ying to grow rapidly. It is the technical accumulation of these two generations that laid the foundation for the shock of the WP13.

WP13 project manager Wang Jinfeng still vividly remembers what his master Li Changxin said to him when he retired: "Xiao Wang, I will take over the WP13 project after I retire. You have always been involved in development, and you are most familiar with the structure. I am very relieved. WP13 will certainly become a very competitive product in the future." Along the master's footprint, Wang Jinfeng and his colleagues participated in and witnessed the whole process of WP13 from prototype, trial to market.

Time flies, Wang Jinfeng also has his own apprentice, Ning Dawei is one of them. In 2014, Ning Dawei University graduated and entered Weichai, followed by the master to engage in the optimization and development of WP13. He said that although WP13's current market feedback is good, there is no end to development. As a general driving force in the field, WP13 will serve different market segments, and fully meet the individual needs of different customers. It is the action guide and value of the development work for them.

More than 3 million sets of "most mature new products"


More than 10 years ago, Weichai engineers traveled to Austria and took the lead in independently developing an electronically controlled high-powered engine in the industry.

As a new product, WP13 has such excellent performance in the market introduction period and has to be praised. However, in view of the engineers who are most familiar with WP13, it is reasonable to be able to achieve such a result. Because WP13 has more than 3 million sets of experience in the same platform products, it is the most mature 13-liter commercial vehicle power in China.
