Foreign media reported that on August 2, 2012, Renault Motors announced that it would increase its Brazilian engine plant production capacity by 25%. The plant is located in Curitiba, Parana, southern Brazil. In 2013, the building area will be expanded to 5,000 square meters, aiming to increase the engine production capacity from 400,000 units to 500,000 units.

In 1999, the Curitiba plant was built at the local Ayrton Senna industrial base. In 2011, it produced 335.813 million engines, and the cumulative production volume has been nearly 2.5 million units over the years. The factory exported more than 1.2 million engines to the South American market. Not only is the engine plant, Renault has also set up an assembly plant for passenger cars and small commercial vehicles.

For the Renault Group, Brazil is the second largest market in the world after France. With popular support from Duster and Sandero, Renault’s share of the Brazilian market in the first half of 2012 reached 6.8%. Renault’s goal is to achieve 8% market share by 2016.

Renault CEO Carlos Ghosn announced in October 2011: "From the beginning of 2013, the capacity of vehicles at the Curitiba plant will be increased by 100,000.
