Siemens provides advanced power systems for the world's deepest semi-submersible drilling rigs

Recently, Siemens provided an advanced power system for the D90, a semi-submersible drilling rig with the deepest drilling depth and deepest drilling depth built by CIMC Raffles. Siemens' advanced power pack system covers “one-stop” solutions from low-voltage switchboards for high-voltage switchboards to transformers, drilling inverters, propulsion drives and propulsion motors, making the platform more stable, reliable and efficient over the years. The land operates at sea.

It is reported that the D90 deep-sea semi-submersible drilling platform adopts the basic design of Frigsta D90, which is 117 meters long, 92.7 meters wide and 118 meters high. With a maximum working depth of 3,658 meters and a maximum drilling depth of 15,240 meters, the D901 can operate in 99% of the world's waters. The power pack system capacity provided by Siemens is equivalent to the electricity consumption of a city with a population of 500,000.
The platform is equipped with the world's leading Siemens DP3 closed-loop power system. The Siemens DP3 closed-loop power solution guarantees energy and safety for the platform, reducing oil consumption by 11% for drilling platforms, reducing nitrogen oxides by 35% and carbon dioxide emissions by 20%.
When the generator on the platform suddenly fails, through the DP3 closed-loop power solution, the standby generator can be started in a very short time, so that the platform can obtain continuous power, ensure safe and stable operation, and reduce the maintenance cost of the mainframe by 50%.
Lin Bin, Executive Vice President of Process Industry and Drives Group, Siemens (China) Co., Ltd. said, "With our cutting-edge technology and advanced experience in industrial digitalization, Siemens is willing to provide the latest in the offshore drilling industry for local companies such as CIMC Raffles. And the highest level of technical support to help it maintain its industry leading position."
Siemens launched DP3 closed-loop power technology in 2010 and is the first in the world to apply this technology to real ships and obtain classification society certification. This technology can effectively reduce host operation and maintenance time, improve host operation flexibility and fuel economy, and reduce greenhouse and harmful gas emissions. At present, Siemens DP3 closed-loop power technology has been integrated and applied in more than a dozen real ships around the world.
Marine engineering equipment is called “flowing land” and is a strategic tool for the development of the offshore oil industry. The “Made in China 2025” national strategy also ranks the offshore equipment industry as one of the top 10 areas supported by the industry. CIMC Raffles is a leading international offshore equipment company and the only domestic company with the capacity to build large-scale deepwater semi-submersible drilling platforms. Since the first cooperation between the two parties in 2005, Siemens has provided a power pack system for the six semi-submersible platforms successfully delivered by CIMC Raffles. They are currently operating in the South China Sea, the Norwegian North Sea and the Brazilian waters.
